Introduction of MAGD Programme:

Institute of Governance Studies (IGS) of BRAC University runs an MA in Governance and Development (MAGD) which is exclusively for Civil Servants. Currently 4th MAGD is ongoing with 24 students from four different cadres of Bangladesh Civil Service.  The programme aims at equipping government officials with knowledge and skills to deal with the complex issues of governance in the twenty-first century.  This MA program is fully residential and it has been designed to enhance knowledge and skills of individual to enable them to enlarge their intellectual environment and become better equipped to confront the complexities of governance in a globalised world. The one year programme is divided into three semesters. The full programme is given 36 credits along with 9 credits on dissertation. This progarmme is also given an avenue to see foreign countries civil servants like South Korea, Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore and so on.  The optimum number of the expected participants is not more than 25.

The first three batches of MAGD were funded by Royal Netherlands Embassy Dhaka and BRAC. When funding promise from donors was not forthcoming after completion of the Third Batch in 2009, BRAC decided to fund the Fourth Batch of MAGD Programme. Public sector officials are allowed to apply for this MA programme.
